National Engagement

Honorable Agho Oliver Bamenju’s national engagement in Cameroon is defined by extensive grassroots governance, humanitarian action, and legislative advocacy, particularly within his Tubah/Bafut constituency in the North West Region.

Pre-Parliamentary Civic & Administrative Leadership

Bamenju’s public service began early; just two years after high school, he was appointed to chair a local polling center during the 2007 twin municipal and legislative elections, earning widespread public trust through his transparent management.

From 2011 to 2016, he served as the Regional Secretary General for the Citizen’s Association for Defense of Collective Interests (ACDIC). He investigated the embezzlement of maize sector funds and fiercely defended local poultry farmers against the influx of imported frozen chicken. Concurrently, he worked as an Extension Officer for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), focusing on rural community development in the Tubah Municipality.

Between 2016 and 2020, he served as the Regional Secretary General of FECAFOOT for the North West Region, spearheading government initiatives that utilized sports to combat the rural exodus and engage youth and women. As a dedicated human rights activist, he was the first young man in his region to join “The Mr. Bamenda Organization” to denounce violence against women, and he was an active member of the Bamenda Human Rights Film Festival team from 2013 to 2015

Legislative Oversight & Cyber Diplomacy

Elected in 2020 under the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), Bamenju is one of the youngest Members of Parliament in the National Assembly. He plays a critical domestic role as the Chair of the Mezam Divisional Participatory Follow-Up Committee for the Execution of Public Investment Projects (PIB). In this position, he monitors state-funded infrastructure execution, pushes for transparency and community inclusion, and has explicitly warned underperforming contractors of legal action if they fail to deliver fully financed projects.

Nationally, he is a leading voice for digital rights and cybersecurity. He frequently questions the Minister of Post and Telecommunications to push for a comprehensive Digital Rights Bill that protects data and freedom of expression. Notably, Bamenju was a key member of the official Cameroonian delegation that successfully deposited the nation’s Instrument of Accession to the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime in December 2023.

The Bambili Water Project

He is the driving force behind this 600 Million FCFA initiative aimed at supplying clean water to local residents and 30,000 University of Bamenda students, personally contributing 300,000 FCFA to kickstart fundraising.

Crisis Relief

He donated 2,000 aluminum roofing sheets and financial assistance to help households in Tubah rebuild homes that were destroyed or displaced by the armed conflict.

Healthcare Support

He delivered 30 million FCFA worth of medical supplies to Bafut and Tubah district hospitals, pledged to construct a kitchen for caregivers, and distributed Universal Health Coverage (UHC) vouchers to pregnant women.

Community Cohesion & Party Politics

Bamenju actively invests in local culture and inter-community peace. He donated 500,000 FCFA to the Bafut-Manjong Cultural Hall Extension Project in Yaoundé and nearly 3 million FCFA toward a Bafut cultural festival.

Demonstrating his commitment to peacebuilding, he rewarded the Muslim community in Sabga for resisting separatist attempts to burn down local schools, providing them with Ramadan donations of rice, sugar, blankets, and 500,000 FCFA for their mosque. Politically, he serves as the CPDM Section President for Mezam IV (Bafut) and is highly recognized for leading rigorous door-to-door voter registration campaigns to secure massive voter turnouts for President Paul Biya.

National Honors

In formal recognition of his massive grassroots impact and exceptional community service, the State of Cameroon decorated him as a Knight of the Cameroon Order of Merit in May 2024, an honor he dedicated to the crisis-affected youth of the North West Region.

He was also named the "Most productive MP in 2024" by The Guardian Post daily newspaper and proudly holds the traditional title "The Bambili Hunter" (BTO) conferred by the Fon of Bambili.
