Honorable Agho Oliver Bamenju represents a dynamic era of technocratic and empathetic governance in the Cameroon National Assembly. Elected in 2020 as the Member of Parliament for the Tubah/Bafut constituency in the North West Region under the Cameroon Peopleโ€™s Democratic Movement (CPDM), he is one of the youngest serving lawmakers in the nation Known affectionately by his traditional title, “The Bambili Hunter” (BTO), he is deeply rooted in his local community while simultaneously serving on the global stage as a champion for digital rights, environmental sustainability, and human rights

Hon. Aghoโ€™s passion for leadership began in primary school, where he was elected as class head. His formal entry into democratic governance occurred just two years after graduating from high school when he was appointed chairperson of a local polling center during the 2007 twin municipal and legislative elections. In a complex political environment, the exceptional transparency and fairness with which he managed the electoral process earned him widespread public trust and support, laying the foundational mandate for his future political career

A firm believer in data-driven governance, Hon. Agho brings a highly technical perspective to parliament. He began his higher education at the Regional College of Agriculture, graduating in 2010 with a Diploma in Agro-Forestry and Watershed Management.
Driven by a desire to understand global policy, he earned a scholarship from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and obtained a Masterโ€™s Degree in Global Governance and Sustainable Development, alongside a Certificate in International Cultural Studies, from the prestigious Tohoku University in Japan.In 2022, he emerged as a top graduating student among a diverse cohort of 401 graduates from 34 countries, proudly standing as the lone African and male young parliamentarian in his class

He is also a published scholar. In 2022, he co-authored a peer-reviewed study in the journal Earth titled “Addressing the Problem of Poverty through an International Cooperation Project: The Case Study of Agriculture Development by JICA in Cameroon”. His research proves that international partnerships in agriculture are essential to increasing crop yields, raising rural incomes, and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa. Furthermore, he is a fellow of the United Nations System Staff College in Bonn, Germany

Foundations of Leadership

Before entering active politics, Hon. Agho built an extensive career defending vulnerable populations and promoting community development.

2011 - 2016

Civil Society & Agricultural Defense

Serving as the Regional Secretary General for the Citizen's Association for Defense of Collective Interests (ACDIC), he fought fiercely for local farmers. He led investigations into the embezzlement of maize sector funds and campaigned against the detrimental economic effects of imported frozen chicken on local poultry farmers.

2011 - 2016

Rural Development

He worked as an Extension Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), focusing on the development of rural communities in the Tubah Municipality.

2016 - 2020

Sports & Youth Cohesion

As the Regional Secretary General of FECAFOOT in the North West Region, he led a rural community project utilizing football to combat the rural exodus, making communities more attractive and engaging for youth and women. He continues to support sports today as the Vice President of the North West Futsal Committee.

Human Rights Activism

Deeply committed to social justice, he was the first young man in his region to join "The Mr. Bamenda Organization" to denounce violence against women, and he served on the Bamenda Human Rights Film Festival team from 2013 to 2015.

Legislative Action & Constituency Impact

In the National Assembly, Hon. Agho is a relentless engine for local development. As Chairman of the Mezam Divisional Participatory Follow-Up Committee (PIB), he pushes for inclusive, transparent project execution. His tenure is defined by proactive crisis management and profound philanthropy.

The driving force behind the 600 Million FCFA Bambili Water Project, personally contributing 300,000 FCFA to ensure students at the University of Bamenda and local residents have access to clean water.

Donated 2,000 aluminum roofing sheets and financial assistance to help displaced families in Tubah rebuild their destroyed homes following the Anglophone crisis.

Provided 30 million FCFA worth of medical supplies and equipment to the Bafut and Tubah district hospitals, and distributed Universal Health Coverage vouchers to pregnant women.

Elected to the Executive Committee in Oct 2024. Serves as Program Convenor for Human Rights and Environment. Represented the PGA at the UN Oceans Conference in Nice, France, advocating for the High Seas Treaty and Marine Protected Areas.

Digital Rights & Cyber Diplomacy

Executive Board Member of APNIG. Advocates for low-cost internet in Africa and a Digital Rights Bill in Cameroon. Served on the official delegation that successfully deposited the Instrument of Accession to the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime in Dec 2023.

Economic & Agricultural Reform

Member of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank/IMF and AFSPaN. Recently led the African Elected Officials' Campaign advocating for an end to harsh conditionalities of international donor agencies resulting in the "debt bleeding" of African nations.

Human Trafficking Prevention

An active member of the global Interparliamentary Taskforce on Human Trafficking, working closely with global lawmakers to combat child labor, exploitation, and modern slavery.
